The Tate Modern is all about international modern and contemporary art. It resides at Bankside, London SE1 9TG Tel: 020 7887 8888. Entry is free except for major exhibitions. Open 7 days from 10am to 6pm but on Friday and Saturday it stays open until 10pm. The Tate Modern closes over Christmas and the day before and after but is open most every other day. You could almost live here.

The catamaran service - which boasts specially commissioned exterior and interior designs by artist Damien Hirst - operates during gallery hours and leaves every 40 minutes. The service stops at Tate Modern, Tate Britain and beside the London Eye. You can buy day tickets (valid for an unlimited number of trips on one day) at either Tate gallery, online, by phone (Mon-Fri 9.45am-5.50pm) or on the boat. The timetable is available on the website:
